Recently I started developing a morning routine and have been loving it. Obviously it involves these greek yogurt waffles…
Here’s how it goes: Wake up at 5:30. Hit the snooze button for 5 minutes so I can cuddle with Tony. Feed Milly. Brush my teeth. Get dressed. Grab a cup of coffee to go. Kiss Tony on the cheek and walk out the door so I can just make it for my 6am workout class. I enjoy getting my workouts done in the morning because not only does it give me TONS of energy, but then I can focus on work the rest of the day.
Since I ususally don’t eat pre-morning workout, my stomach is rumbling once I return home. During my shower, it’s not uncommon for me to debate my breakfast options for a good 10 minutes. Do I want avocado toast with ALL the toppings?! What about pancakes? Maybe a green smoothie with peanut butter? Perfectly fried eggs? Crispy, fresh waffles? UGH. So hungry I can’t think.
Since my workouts have been pretty intense thanks to a new fitness studio, I’ve been opting for hearty breakfasts with both healthy carbs & protein. Obviously these flourless banana oatmeal waffles are the answer!
Wait a sec, aren’t waffles always the answer? Yes.
This particular recipe was inspired by my original cottage cheese banana pancakes, which just so happen to taste like banana bread and is an AK reader favorite. I switched up the ingredients just a smidgen so that I could use the greek yogurt and Almond Breeze Almondmilk in my fridge. By the way, did you know that Almond Breeze makes shelf stable almondmilk? I go through almond milk pretty quickly, so it’s nice to have a few hiding in the pantry.
The turned out to be the easiest waffles ever! The batter is made in the blender for easy clean up so if you have kids, this is a great recipe for them to help with.
The best part about these protein-packed waffles isn’t just the strawberry banana flavor, it’s that they also include probiotics from greek yogurt, fiber from oats, and nutrition and vitamins from eggs. Truly the perfect post-workout breaky.
Lastly, I want to note that the waffles are freezer-friendly! I’ve included notes in the recipe below on how to properly freeze waffles so that you can simply pop them in the toaster for a grab and go breakfast. Just don’t forget that peanut butter spread on top. Enjoy! xo.

Ooo I could go for one of these right now! Happy Monday!
Could breakfast possibly be more gorgeous! These look killer!
I love getting my workouts in super early… before I’ve had time to think about all the other things I have on my plate. Waffles look lush!
These look incredible, as do your cottage cheese banana pay waffles. Do you have any suggestions of a flour blend/ grain do use instead of oats? I have celiac and even have an an intolerance to GF oats (think this is pretty common among celiacs!) thanks!
If workouts don’t happen before work, they just don’t happen for me. I’ve been loving big breakfasts lately… I don’t have a waffle iron, but this recipe is making me change my mind!
What workout studios in Chicago do you go to? I’m always looking for new places to try 🙂
I makes these often and just cook in a pancake 🙂 they are so good!
Such a great way to get your oats as an option to a regular bowl for breakfast. I like that you added Almond Breeze, I bet the coconut flavor would be super good too.
Your banana cottage cheese pancakes are a staple in our house, I’m pretty sure these will be too! Thanks for offering this type of recipe in waffle form!
These photos are gorgeous and these waffles are absolute perfection!!!!! Where were these in Mexico?!
Wait, batter made in the blender?! That’s genius! I’m more compelled to make waffles that don’t include all the baking mess!
WHOA, these are punched with protein!!! I have to try these waffles as soon as possible!
The struggle for figuring out what to make for breakfast is REAL! But these waffles are perfection! Great amount of protein and carb ratio to restore your muscles post- workout!
Definitely craving waffles right now, these look great.. and I love the addition of banana into them. I’ve never made banana waffles before.
This is my kind of breakfast. I need to whip up a big batch. Love the extra protein in these and the almond milk would give them such a great flavor too.
I always do my workouts before breakfast, too, so am STARVING by the time I get home! Protein is always a must, so I love that these waffles are filled with Greek yogurt.
Wow! A new way of having my oatmeal. Yogurt and bananas would be a rich source of protein; a perfect post workout meal. 🙂
YUM! Any excuse to break out the waffle iron. These look fantastic.
This sounds perfect for Saturday morning breakfast!
Oh, girl, I’d love to make these for my family this weekend!
I’ve been debating the purchase of a waffle maker. This recipe has just confirmed my purchase. Will be making these as soon as my waffle maker arrives, possible for dinner!
Thanks for so many yummy healthy recipes.
Do you know if I could substitute banana for anything? I’m always looking for healthy waffle/pancake recipes but they always have banana or too much sugar and I hate banana.
I just made these this morning, and they were so yummy! So easy to make as long as you have a high powered blender. Thanks for this great recipe!
I just started clean eating and I am loving how it makes me feel! I am so glad I found your website. The recipes are delicious, especially these waffles! I was dying to make them for a while now and this morning was THE morning! These waffles were incredible! Thanks, Monique!
I had no luck with these as waffles. They stuck and burnt even though I greased the iron well and adjusted the temperature, so I just used the batter for pancakes by blending the strawberries into the batter so it was thinner, and they turned out really tasty although they tended to burn quickly. Overall very good, would make again.
These are so scrumptious – thanks Monique!! I didn’t have Greek yogurt so just strained regular plain yogurt for 20 min – worked great!! Also didn’t have strawberries so tried diced peaches instead – wow – such a great combo. Did one waffle with peaches served on top and one with peaches mixed in batter. Waffles cooked through better with the first version. Thanks!!
Love this concept! The flavors were wonderful. I think my next iteration would be to lessen the oats and add more milk – it was a tad dry for me. However it was still very tasty….I had an entire waffle (oops) :p Happy Sunday!
Yum! <3
I make these almost weekly for my family! very quick and healthy. I make pancakes with the batter as I don’t have a waffle iron. Just have to make sure the pan is hot and they are pretty cooked through before the first flip! Thanks M!!
Most disenchanted with this recipe, and I never say that about your food. I could not get this to work for anything and now I’m bawling in my kitchen because I had school all day and two hungry toddlers home from daycare and all I wanted was a healthy fast meal.
I’m so sorry you had this experience. I’m not sure why this would happen as I tested the recipe several times. Most likely it might have been the banana or egg size. Again I apologize that you had an issue with this recipe, but please do know that I test my recipes several times before posting on my site!
Super easy and quite tasty, however I find them pretty dry. Any idea what I should do to fix that? Is it a matter of less oats and more milk? I really have zero kitchen experience so I’m hesitant to start messing around with the measurements and end up wasting ingredients (Girl on a budget here!) Thanks!
Hi Mel! I’ve tested this recipe a few times and didn’t find them too dry. You could try adding some more Greek yogurt, and making sure that your banana is ripe!
Made them for dinner and hade hommade sunflower seed butter as a spread – so good + fruit. I made pancakes though since I don’t have waffle maker. One thing, I totally forgot to put in eggs, but they’ve kept well and did not fall apart so I wonder if you even need eggs? Because they don’t add any flavour I guess, or is it something I am missing? Just out of curiosity
Super good anyway!
I’m so glad you enjoyed these! And very interesting about the eggs – I always add them (when I make waffles) so I’ll have to try the pancake version to see.
These turned out perfectly. Had something similar at an Inn and tried different recipes that didn’t work too well (including the Inns!) but this one came out great. Like the banana giving a hint of sweetness. Of course I ended up using some PB2 on top -can’t resisit that peanut butter. I think this will be my go to recipe for Oatmeal type. Great. Thank you.
So glad you found a recipe winner! Love PB on top too 🙂
Here I am again looking for the recipe. I don’t know why I haven’t give a five star review yet. Honestly, I forgot. I get overwhelmed with my baby. So, I have made this recipe more than 10 times and keep looking for it in google instead of memorizing it. Love it. Its perfect. You have to make waffles as fast as you can because the batter gets thick. I also love quinoa flour waffles. Thanks Monique!!!
Amazing! I’m glad you love this one Eunice 🙂
We don’t eat dairy. What could I replace the Greek yogurt with?
Hi Whitney! You could try using a dairy-free yogurt here 🙂
Hi! I’m 77 years and like to eat healthy. Love this recipe, loaded with healthy ingredients. Thanks for posting it.
Pat
Hi Pat! Love this one too – such a great breakfast. I’m so glad you love this!
These are so easy to make. They are pretty thick waffles! The flavor is perfect.
Easy and delish! Glad you like them!
hi!!! JUST dropped in your blog searching for a healthy recipe 🙂 I just wondered if instead of the fresh strawberries I could use FROZEN blueberries directly?? do you think it will cook good enough in the batter?
and also, regarding the yougurt, could it be SKYR one with no fat?
thank you very much!!
Hi! Yes to both! Enjoy 🙂
hi!
These are delicious! I tend to add a little more almond milk, but overall, it’s a fantastic recipe. My whole family loves them
Perfect! Glad these are a hit!
I always prepared this waffles for my 2 years old daughter and she really like them. I love them too, especially knowing that they are made with super healthy ingredients 🧡
Super easy, great texture. My 9 month old loved these, and I loved that there is no added sugar- the bananas made it perfectly sweet.
These come together so quickly and are wonderful to freeze and have on hand for quick breakfasts or snacks. I pop in the toaster + add PB – Monique would be proud 😉
Excellent Gluten Free Waffles!
I added one scoop of Collagen, and a 1/2 scoop of my protein powder as well as using egg replacer instead of the eggs as I am allergic.
I made it in my nutribullet which was filled to the top and it did a little pop explosion when I opened it…. so open carefully if using a small blender. I only lost a tiny bit of the batter on my shirt. Ha ha. Will definitely make again
Love love love!! These waffles and your oatmeal yogurt pancakes are on constant rotation in my house!
Woohoooo! Glad to hear you love them both!
This is our go to waffles recipe. My 2 years old daughter love it and me too ☺ Thanks for another great recipe!
Aw so glad to hear that! You’re welcome, and thank YOU for the review 🙂
Family favorite. The kiddos ask for these every morning!
Yay!! So happy you all love it!
Taste was okay. I had to use more than twice the amount of milk to get my blender to blend these and the result was very dense.
Sorry you didn’t love these! Thanks for the feedback 🙂
I made the waffles this morning. In fact, I am eating one while I write this. They are delicious. I will definitely be making more so I can add them to the freezer and pop out 1 for breakfast when I don’t have time to cook something.
Made these today, substituted unsweetened applesauce for the banana, super yummy!
Perfect! So glad these turned out great for you 🙂
I wondered how this would go down in my waffle maker with no oil, even brushing the plates with oil, and sadly I was right to worry. Stuck, tore in half, and made an awful mess. 🙁 I think perhaps I’ll stick to your pancake recipe! It wasn’t a total loss tho, we scraped all the bits in bowls and ate with all the trimmings. 😆 Tasty mess!
Oh no! So sorry this didn’t turn out as you had hoped. Glad you enjoyed the flavor though!
I LOVE recipes from this site, but this one did not turn out for me. I had to add way more liquid (closer to a cup or more) and then they somehow burnt in the waffle maker but weren’t fully cooked on the inside? Bummer, but that’s ok. I just won’t make this one again.
So sorry to hear that! I’ll have to give this one a re-test (it’s very old, so I’ll double check the measurements!)
The freeze instructions state: To freeze waffles: cook them on wire racks when they are done cooking.
Should it be: Put them on wire racks?
Yes, thank you for the catch! I’ve updated the notes.
I’ve tried this recipe at least 5 times and every time I end up having to add flour or completely sub the oat flour for regular flour. Otherwise it sticks to the waffle maker terribly. Wish I could get the oat flour to work but it just doesn’t bind as well. Will stick to the buttermilk waffles from now which are always a winner
Sorry to hear that! I’m not sure why the oat flour would cause these to stick. I’ll have to retest these soon and let you know if I make adjustments as it’s been almost 10 years!
